Twenty years ago, Joe Adler's son-in-law took him on a surprise visit to a Habitat for Humanity build site in Colorado. "I think he did it to get me involved," Adler said. Upon returning to Joliet, Adler teamed up with the late Lee Hanson and created the Will County chapter of Habitat for Humanity. The group dedicated its 50th house on Sunday, a milestone that Adler calls "important."

ML 320 BlueTEC makes solid case for diesel
I’m slowly being won over by the idea of diesel. Take, for example, the 2009 Mercedes-Benz ML 320 BlueTEC. During a test, I averaged around 22 mpg and didn’t even go through a quarter tank of gas in a week of my regular commute.

The most important ingredient for a successful Thanksgiving? Math. That's because crunching the numbers is the best way to make sure that you have enough turkey for all your guests, that the turkey you serve them won't be raw, and that it comes out of the oven on time.

Seth Cook led the way for the Demons with 10 points and six rebounds. Kyle Carpenter added 9 points, and Nick Dal Polo nailed two 3-pointers. Joey Newtoff had two assists and three steals. Ronnie Dunlap, Stephan Wright, Armando Zambrano and Newtoff all scored 4 points.

I was just re-editing a turkey hunting TV show for Illinois Outdoors. It will run on Nov. 29 at 12:30 p.m. on Comcast Cable. While watching this show it reminded me that turkey hunting really is a lot of fun.

Hospice staff have passion for compassion
Barb Davis works as a hospice nurse for one main reason. It's for those "golden times" that are spent with a loved one before they die. When a family member or close friend dies, it can be a horrible gut-wrenching thing, she said, maybe the worst thing those family members have ever been through. But it can also be one of the best times.
